Sterling Silver Care

Wearing:
One of the most effective ways to prevent silver from tarnishing? Wearing it! Your skin's natural oils protect silver from oxidizing when exposed to air. However, avoid wearing your jewelry while bathing, swimming, or handling harsh chemicals (bleach, chlorine, perfumes, lotions), as these can damage the metal. Put your jewelry on last—after applying makeup, perfume, and hairspray.

Storage:
Store silver jewelry in a dry, dark, and ideally airtight container. Excessive sunlight and humidity contribute to tarnish. Keep pieces in individual pouches or boxes to prevent scratching. When traveling, use a protective case to avoid tangling or impact.

Upkeep:
Taking a few seconds to gently wipe down your silver jewelry will prevent tarnish buildup and keep pieces sparkling. All Sabinemade pieces come with a polishing cloth—use it after each wear or every 1-2 weeks for daily-wear pieces.

We suggest using mild soap and water before polishing to remove residual oils, then dry thoroughly with a clean towel. This preps the piece for easier polishing!

Want to take your polishing further? We recommend Connoisseurs Silver Cleaner—affordable and effective.

Gold Fill Care

What is Gold Fill?
Gold fill jewelry features a thick layer of 14k gold mechanically bonded to a base metal—unlike gold plating, which is a thin coating that wears off quickly. Gold fill is significantly more durable and long-lasting, containing approximately 100 times more gold than plated jewelry. With proper care, gold fill pieces can last decades without losing their luster.

Wearing:
Avoid wearing gold fill jewelry while bathing, swimming, or handling harsh chemicals (bleach, chlorine, perfumes, lotions, hairspray). Put your jewelry on last—after applying makeup, perfume, and hairspray—to minimize contact with potentially damaging substances.

Storage:
Store gold fill jewelry in a dry, dark place. Keep pieces in individual pouches or boxes to prevent scratching. When traveling, use a protective case to avoid tangling or impact.

Upkeep:
Gold fill requires minimal maintenance! Simply wipe gently with a soft, lint-free cloth after wearing to remove oils and dirt. If needed, wash with warm water and mild dish soap, then dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.

IMPORTANT: Do not use silver polishing cloths or silver cleaners on gold fill jewelry—these are too abrasive and will damage the gold layer. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals.

General Care for All Jewelry

Preventing Damage:
Sabinemade jewelry is designed to last and withstand everyday wear. However, like all fine jewelry, it's not indestructible—please handle with care! Scratches are a normal part of wearing jewelry (especially rings) and tell the story of your life experiences.

If your jewelry breaks or you'd like scratches buffed out, email hello@sabinemade.com.
